100 percent sustain\u00adable. 100 percent our way!<\/h1>\n

We at Evonik Active Oxygens will not only be a climate-neutral busi\u00adness, but also be produc\u00ading a 100 percent green chem\u00adi\u00adcal by 2040. That\u2019s because our prod\u00aducts are already green, and we know how to ensure that their produc\u00adtion is sustain\u00adable, too.<\/span><\/span><\/h4>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

C<\/span>limate neutral\u00adity<\/a> is an objec\u00adtive that all indus\u00adtrial compa\u00adnies strive to achieve. We at Evonik Active Oxygens are going one step further: we intend to produce a 100 percent green chem\u00adi\u00adcal. In doing so, we are focus\u00ading on our foot\u00adprint<\/a> and hand\u00adprint<\/a>. A few things still need to change before we achieve our goal. But we know which ones, and we have already started on our way.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

We know the way<\/h5>\n

While manu\u00adfac\u00adtur\u00aders of many chem\u00adi\u00adcals face the chal\u00adlenge of manag\u00ading what happens to their prod\u00aducts espe\u00adcially at the end of their life cycles, the hydro\u00adgen perox\u00adide<\/a>  we produce is an entirely natural prod\u00aduct. It not only occurs natu\u00adrally in our bodies, for exam\u00adple, but also in honey or roasted coffee. Hydro\u00adgen perox\u00adide degrades into water and oxygen. When our second prod\u00aduct group, peracetic acid<\/a>, is broken down, what also remains at the end is bio-based acetic acid.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

We at Evonik Active Oxygens are also one step ahead of many other compa\u00adnies on the path to sustain\u00adabil\u00adity in the manu\u00adfac\u00adtur\u00ading process. We no longer have to search for unfa\u00admil\u00adiar solu\u00adtions to climate-neutral produc\u00adtion issues. We know how to get there. Exten\u00adsive life cycle analy\u00adses have enabled us to docu\u00adment all sources of emis\u00adsions, and we know what we need to change \u2013 and how we want to make that happen.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Three levers with huge impact<\/h5>\n

The three major produc\u00adtion levers are elec\u00adtric\u00adity, hydro\u00adgen and steam. Most of the elec\u00adtric\u00adity we use is already gener\u00adated from renew\u00adable sources. We want to increase the percent\u00adage of renew\u00adable elec\u00adtric\u00adity used at our sites world\u00adwide to over 90 percent. In the long term, we will only use elec\u00adtric\u00adity from renew\u00adable sources.<\/p>\n

We will also grad\u00adu\u00adally replace hydro\u00adgen, an essen\u00adtial primary mate\u00adr\u00adial used in the produc\u00adtion of hydro\u00adgen perox\u00adide and there\u00adfore indi\u00adrectly of peracetic acid, with green hydro\u00adgen. The steam required for produc\u00adtion will be gener\u00adated in future using renew\u00adable energy. At the same time, we are reduc\u00ading consump\u00adtion by invest\u00ading in further effi\u00adciency improve\u00adments, for exam\u00adple heat recovery.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Switch\u00ading our produc\u00adtion to green will be completed by 2040. Produc\u00adtion of our hydro\u00adgen perox\u00adide, peracetic acid and persul\u00adfates<\/a> prod\u00aduct groups will then be 100 percent sustain\u00adable. Only a tiny resid\u00adual frac\u00adtion (less than five percent) of our direct and indi\u00adrect emis\u00adsions will prob\u00ada\u00adbly have to be offset through exter\u00adnal projects.<\/p>\n

We use bio-based acetic acid to manu\u00adfac\u00adture peracetic acid, which is produced by combin\u00ading hydro\u00adgen perox\u00adide with acetic acid. Compared to acetic acid from fossil-based sources, this reduces the CO2<\/sub> foot\u00adprint<\/a> of this raw mate\u00adr\u00adial by 80 percent. In Europe, we already mainly use acetic acid from renew\u00adable raw mate\u00adri\u00adals. In future, we also intend to use acetic acid derived from renew\u00adable raw mate\u00adri\u00adals at our other produc\u00adtion sites worldwide.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Completely natural<\/h5>\n

Sustain\u00adably manu\u00adfac\u00adtured and having no nega\u00adtive impact at the end of their life cycle \u2013 that is one side of the coin. The other side of the coin is the fact that both prod\u00aducts not only have no nega\u00adtive impact on people and the envi\u00adron\u00adment. They also make a posi\u00adtive contri\u00adbu\u00adtion to a wide range of appli\u00adca\u00adtions. Given their effi\u00adcacy, they enable, for exam\u00adple, clean water, safe food and high-qual\u00adity recy\u00adcled paper to be produced, and they have the poten\u00adtial to replace less sustain\u00adable chem\u00adi\u00adcals in other applications.<\/p>\n

Once the trans\u00adfor\u00adma\u00adtion of our produc\u00adtion processes is complete, we will produce 100 percent green chem\u00adi\u00adcals: entirely climate-neutral<\/a> and having a posi\u00adtive impact on the envi\u00adron\u00adment when used in vari\u00adous applications.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
