The UN General Assem\u00adbly adopted Agenda 2030 back in Septem\u00adber 2015. It contains 17 global sustain\u00adabil\u00adity goals (<a href=\"https:\/\/unric.org\/en\/united-nations-sustainable-development-goals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sustain\u00adabil\u00adity Devel\u00adop\u00adment Goals, SDGs<\/a>) and is aimed at poli\u00adcy\u00admak\u00aders, the busi\u00adness and scien\u00adtific commu\u00adni\u00adties as well as all members of civic society.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"is-layout-flow wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:8.333%\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"is-layout-flow wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:25%\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"is-layout-flex wp-container-21 wp-block-columns\">\n<div class=\"is-layout-flow wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:8.33%\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"is-layout-flow wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:58.333%\">\n<h5>Doing busi\u00adness responsibly<\/h5>\n<p>The <a class=\"hotspot\" href=\"https:\/\/active-oxygens-sustainability.evonik.com\/en\/glossar\/sustainable-development-goals-sdgs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sustain\u00adable Devel\u00adop\u00adment Goals (SDGs)<\/a> call on us as a&nbsp;company to engage in respon\u00adsi\u00adble and forward-look\u00ading busi\u00adness practices:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We are commit\u00adted to reduc\u00ading our CO<sub>2<\/sub> foot\u00adprint. That is why we are intro\u00adduc\u00ading measures to protect the climate.<\/li>\n<li>We moni\u00adtor the condi\u00adtions along the supply chain, in which the raw mate\u00adri\u00adals we use are produced.<\/li>\n<li>We want our employ\u00adees to stay healthy and feel good about work\u00ading for&nbsp;us.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We need to do even more as a&nbsp;company that produces some of the world\u2019s most sustain\u00adable chem\u00adi\u00adcals \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/active-oxygens-sustainability.evonik.com\/en\/articles\/what-is-hydrogen-peroxide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hydro\u00adgen perox\u00adide,<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/active-oxygens-sustainability.evonik.com\/en\/articles\/what-is-peracetic-acid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">peracetic acid<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/active-oxygens-sustainability.evonik.com\/en\/articles\/what-are-persulfates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">persul\u00adfates<\/a>. Here are a&nbsp;few exam\u00adples of the activ\u00adi\u00adties we are undertaking:<\/p>\n<h5><strong>Preserv\u00ading our ecosystem<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">We use hydro\u00adgen perox\u00adide and peracetic acid to produce <a href=\"https:\/\/active-oxygens-sustainability.evonik.com\/en\/articles\/delivering-healthy-food-with-high-nutritional-value-and-plenty-of-flavor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">asep\u00adtic pack\u00adag\u00ading<\/a> designed to keep food and bever\u00adage prod\u00aducts germ-free. These prod\u00aducts remain fresh for longer, with\u00adout the need for energy-inten\u00adsive refrig\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtion. This enables people in remote regions to be provided with food that\u2019s safe to eat. <em>(SDG 2)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>We also want to preserve valu\u00adable food\u00adstuffs by apply\u00ading our long-estab\u00adlished process, in which peracetic acid is used to combat a&nbsp;fungal toxin that blights <a href=\"https:\/\/active-oxygens-sustainability.evonik.com\/en\/articles\/vigorox-ceres-to-prevent-beer-from-excess-foaming\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wheat and barley<\/a>. This envi\u00adron\u00admen\u00adtally compat\u00adi\u00adble treat\u00adment enables more cere\u00adals of better qual\u00adity to be used to feed people and animals. <em>(SDG 12)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"is-layout-flow wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:8.333%\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"is-layout-flow wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:25%\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"is-layout-flex wp-container-39 wp-block-columns\">\n<div class=\"is-layout-flow wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:8.33%\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"is-layout-flow wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:58.333%\" id=\"sdg2\">\n<h5>Ensur\u00ading health and wellbeing<\/h5>\n<p>An adequate water supply and clean drink\u00ading water are essen\u00adtial for people and the envi\u00adron\u00adment. That is why we are devel\u00adop\u00ading tech\u00adnolo\u00adgies to use less water in our produc\u00adtion processes. We are also active in the field of water treat\u00adment: our green prod\u00aducts, hydro\u00adgen perox\u00adide and peracetic acid, enable us to replace less sustain\u00adable chem\u00adi\u00adcals like chlo\u00adrine and there\u00adfore help people lead health\u00adier lives around the&nbsp;world.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/active-oxygens-sustainability.evonik.com\/en\/articles\/water-treatment-in-memphis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">waste\u00adwater treat\u00adment plant<\/a> using peracetic acid is oper\u00adated in Memphis, Tennessee, for exam\u00adple, to treat \u2018high-main\u00adte\u00adnance\u2019 waste\u00adwater from the Missis\u00adsippi River. The peracetic acid produc\u00adtion plant we built there in the imme\u00addi\u00adate vicin\u00adity has also grad\u00adu\u00adally started supply\u00ading neigh\u00adbor\u00ading munic\u00adi\u00adpal waste\u00adwater treat\u00adment plants. <em>(SDG 6)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The hydro\u00adgen perox\u00adide we produce forms the basis of the Fenton process, which is used to pretreat <a href=\"https:\/\/active-oxygens-sustainability.evonik.com\/en\/articles\/sustainable-treatment-of-high-maintenance-wastewater\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">indus\u00adtrial waste\u00adwater in Marl<\/a>, Germany, for exam\u00adple. This treat\u00adment reli\u00adably prevents pollu\u00adtants from enter\u00ading water\u00adcourses. Fenton is also an effec\u00adtive and at the same time envi\u00adron\u00admen\u00adtally compat\u00adi\u00adble and energy-saving alter\u00adna\u00adtive to the incin\u00ader\u00ada\u00adtion of aque\u00adous indus\u00adtrial waste. <em>(SDG 6)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"is-layout-flow wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:8.333%\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"is-layout-flow wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:25%\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"is-layout-flex wp-container-44 wp-block-columns\">\n<div class=\"is-layout-flow wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:8.33%\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"is-layout-flow wp-block-column\" style=\"flex-basis:58.333%\" id=\"sdg3\">\n<h5><strong>Combat\u00ading climate change<\/strong><\/h5>\n<p>We are devel\u00adop\u00ading forward-look\u00ading tech\u00adnolo\u00adgies to conserve scarce resources and energy. Our <a href=\"https:\/\/active-oxygens-sustainability.evonik.com\/en\/articles\/what-is-hppo-hppg\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">HPPO process<\/a>, devel\u00adoped together with thyssenk\u00adrupp Indus\u00adtrial Solu\u00adtions, is one exam\u00adple of how this can be achieved. <em>(SDG 9)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In addi\u00adtion to these tangi\u00adble appli\u00adca\u00adtions, a&nbsp;high\u00adlight is our <a href=\"https:\/\/active-oxygens-sustainability.evonik.com\/en\/roadmap\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">roadmap<\/a> to climate neutral\u00adity, which we have drawn up in line with the global sustain\u00adabil\u00adity goals. It describes the climate protec\u00adtion action we intend to take in order to make our manu\u00adfac\u00adtur\u00ading entirely climate-neutral by 2040. <em>(SDG 13)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These are just a&nbsp;few exam\u00adples of how our prod\u00aducts and processes are help\u00ading us to make people\u2019s lives better today and tomor\u00adrow, in accor\u00addance with the United Nations guide\u00adlines. We will continue to go down this path and open up new lines of busi\u00adness as well.
