This indi­cates the amount of carbon diox­ide emis­sions caused directly or indi­rectly. Depend­ing on the defi­n­i­tion, the value often includes other green­house gases (for exam­ple, methane or nitrous oxide) in addi­tion to carbon diox­ide, which are usually calcu­lated in metric tons of CO2 equiv­a­lent. The term can be applied to people, prod­ucts, compa­nies, orga­ni­za­tions and coun­tries, among others.
